Salmon farm aims to win award celebrating achievements of rural businesses

Loch Duart, the independent salmon farming company based in Sutherland and the Hebrides, has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Food Award, North category for the Rural Business Awards. Now in its fourth year, the awards recognise businesses operating across the rural sector, celebrating achievements from engineering through to artisan food producers and professional services organisations.

The North of Scotland is synonymous with some of the best food and drink in Britain, so to be shortlisted for the ‘Best Rural Food Award’ in this competition is a fantastic endorsement for Loch Duart.  Loch Duart was established in 1999 and is a significant employer in the remote communities of North West Scotland. Many of the staff work each day out at sea, rearing Loch Duart’s extraordinary salmon. The Rural Business Awards acknowledge and celebrate the vital contributions made by companies to the development and success of the rural sector and way of life. Winners are decided by an independent panel of judges drawn from the rural business sector, official agencies and rural charitable organisations.

North award winners, for which Loch Duart has been nominated as Rural Food Business, are announced at a regional awards ceremony on Tuesday 9th October 2018; winners from this go on to the 2018/19 National Final held in February 2019.
